PEORIA – In the wake of Hurricane Matthew, the Red Cross is recruiting new volunteers to assist with the response efforts.
More than 3,000 Red Cross workers are currently in Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia helping with the response efforts and officials say the recovery will be a long process. The Red Cross Central and Southern Illinois Region will be hosting a “Hot Shot” training event for new volunteers Monday in Peoria.
“Hot Shot” is a one-day training that will provide new volunteers with the skills needed to be a part of the Hurricane Matthew response. Attendees will complete two online courses and will learn how to set up and run a shelter and learn psychological first aid.
Registration is required. To register, contact Laura Streid at (309) 662-0500, ext. 7428 or at Laura.Streid@redcross.org.
