NORMAL – Illinois State University is looking to expand and diversify its campus.
The university has signed a memorandum of understanding with Southwest University of Chongqing, China on Thursday. The agreement could pave the way for ISU students to study overseas.
Provost Janet Krejci told WJBC’s Terry James the agreement will also allow for visiting professors from China to come to ISU for those students who might not be able to travel abroad.

“We would love for a lot of our students to be able to study abroad and experience different cultures to prepare them to be global citizens,” Krejci said. “That’s not a possibility for every student, so bringing students in or bringing faculty in helps to enrich our campus as well by exposing our students to the world that’s getting smaller every day.”
Krejci added the agreement will create a more diverse campus and better prepare students for a global workforce.
“Life doesn’t just happen in Bloomington-Normal or a state and so it’s an exciting time for us,” Krejci said.
