NORMAL – The Normal Town Council will look Monday at approving a series of measures allowing a new apartment complex on Raab Road, west of Heartland Community College.
City Manager Mark Peterson explained the complext will be called The Lofts Northend and will be aimed mainly at students and young professionals.
“Within each unit there are eight one bedroom efficiencies and eight one bedroom loft apartments,” said Peterson. “In total there’s 128 units and 128 beds, so these will all be one-bedroom units.”
Peterson admitted that is a little unusual, but there does seem to be a market for this type of development right now.
The council will consider three items related to the development, the most important of which is the Preliminary Planned Unit Development plan.
Also on Monday’s agenda is a resolution authorizing the demolition of the Illinois Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s School Administration Building. The Normal Historic Preservation Commission voted last week against the demolition, but the Town Council has the final say on if the building is removed.
