BLOOMINGTON – There has been progress as Unit 5 teachers work to reach a contract with the district.
The Unit five education association website says a tentative contract has been reached. Talks took place for seven hours on Tuesday night.
Unit 5 Superintendent Mark Daniel commented on the agreement.
“Very pleased that we were able to reach a tentative agreement,” said Daniel. “Now it needs to go to both the board of education and the teachers for ratification.”
A date still needs to be set for a meeting to ratify the contract and allow members to vote.
Nearly 200 people gathered outside of the Illinois Education Association office in Bloomington last week. There are 900 members of the union.
Teachers have been working without a contract in Unit five since the first day of school.
