BLOOMINGTON – A McLean County jury has acquitted a 24-year-old former Illinois State University student of sexual assault charges.
William Wells was charged with the February rape of an 18-year-old woman.
Jurors watched a video of the suspect’s interview with police where he denied the accusation.
Wells claims it was consensual sex and says the two had known each other for four months. He claims the two had been in a heated argument after she came to visit Wells at his Normal apartment.
The jury convicted Wells of one count of resisting arrest. He was released on his own recognizance after spending the last six months in the McLean County Jail.
