CLINTON – Tim Followell applauds the New York Public Service Commission’s recent approval of a clean energy standard that includes nuclear power plants.
Followell said Illinois lawmakers need to do the same thing. The Clinton and Quad Cities nuclear power plants are set to close starting next year.
“New York has actually made a movement to accept nuclear into the clean energy package that they have in New York,” Followell said.
He also said nuclear power should be looked at as clean energy just as wind and solar currently are classified. That would mean tax breaks and lower costs for nuclear plant owner Exelon. Closing the two plants would cause more than 4,000 jobs to be lost and more than a billion to leave the local economies.
