BLOOMINGTON – If your pet is like a member of the family you’ll be glad to know area EMT crews will be equipped with pet oxygen masks.
Bloomington Fire Public Information Officer Stuart Blade says the Invisible Fence company is donating 40 pet oxygen mask kits to the department and they are being distributed to EMT personnel.
“In the past we kind of just used a mask that was made for humans where it’s not designed to work for and animal,” said Blade. “However, we kind of make do. Now those masks are being made for animals so they fit exactly right.”
It’s estimated 40,000 to 150,000 pets die in fires each year.
Several cities are receiving the masks as part of Project Breathe.
