BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington aldermen will vote Monday night on creating a new part of the city code to allow for artisanal and craft production and retail in the city.
Community Development Director Tom Dabareiner said currently, the city does not have a permitted land use for an entry level business.
“Things like making beer, making wine and then selling it on site. Making soap, various oils, for example,” said Dabareiner. “The kinds of things you might manufacture on site. It becomes the first step into the market place for people.”
Dabareiner added many cities have an ordinance similar to this.
“We have immediate interest from a small craft brewery operation, so that’s encouraging,” said Dabareiner. “In fact, he’s raised money already to get this thing underway.”
The City Council will also vote Monday on the final five year contract with VenuWorks, the new operators of U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
