Ogla Mihelic
Olga I. Mihelic, 94, of Bloomington, passed away at 12:35 a.m. on Feb. 25 at Martin Health Center in Bloomington.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Westminster Village, Bloomington. There will be no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded by Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. A private inurnment will be at St. Mary Nativity Cemetery in Joliet at a later date. She was born Dec. 7, 1920 in Minneapolis, MN, daughter of William and Irene Murich Booshak. She married Anthony J. Mihelic on Oct. 16, 1941, he preceded her in death on April 16, 2005. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Steve, and one sister, Anna.
Surviving are two daughters, Janis (Cal) Myers of Aurora and Jackie (Jack) Vasey of Evanston; one granddaughter, Jennifer (Steve) Aleckson of Sugar Grove and two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Gracie Aleckson.
In her earlier years, Olga owned and operated a grocery store in Joliet, where she did everything from cashier, to bookkeeping and operating as the butcher. Later, she and her husband, Tony, owned a tavern in Lamont. In 1952, they moved to Bloomington where they operated the Falstaff Distributorship known as the Central Beverage Company for over 20 years. In the 70’s and 80’s, Olga worked as a realtor for Paul Ball and later for Ed Ingold.
She was a volunteer with St. Joseph Auxiliary in Bloomington for over 50 years. She was also a former Brownie Scout and Girl Scout leader in Bloomington.
Olga was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington. She enjoyed her needle-point, crossword puzzles, was a voracious reader and loved playing BINGO at Westminster Village.
She will be remembered by those who loved her by how she could light up the room with her lively conversation and fun-loving spirit.
