NORMAL – Bloomington-Normal residents are only recycling 36 percent of their garbage.
The goal is 40 percent. That’s according to Michael Brown with the Ecology Action Center.
He said the McLean County Landfill only has about one year left before it is full. After that, we will have to pay more to ship our garbage elsewhere. Brown reccomends finding more things to recycle.
“These can include things like clothing and textile recycling we do have programs like that in our community – it’s not a curbside program, but we do have programs like that none the less,” said Brown.
He said recycling dropped three percent in 2015 compared to the prior year.
