BLOOMINGTON – Business owners in Clinton are preparing for the closing of the Clinton Nuclear Power Plant.
Exelon announced Thursday that it would be closing the power plant in June of next year, which will put more than 700 people out of a job.
Owner of the Clinton Save-a-Lot Dave Jackson explained that he will move forward in his plans to open a bigger store.
“We are in the process of building a brand new store, but it doesn’t change my plan any. But certainly it raises extreme concerns for all aspects of the community, and the county, and the whole area,” said Jackson.
Jackson also explained how the closure will shake the entire county and have massive effects on the schools.
“My biggest concern is jobs and the impact on the taxing bodies. It’s going to devestate the school district,” said Jackson.
The power plant generates an estimated 8 million in tax money for the school district.
