SPRINGFIELD – Many law enforcement types say products like bath salts continue to offer dangers similar to illegal drugs and yet often they wind up on store shelves in plain view.
The Illinois House has passed legislation which makes it a Class 3 felony with a maximum $150 fine to sell or offer for sale any bath salts in a retail mercantile establishment.
State Rep. Avery Bourne (R-Raymond) said she pursued the legislation after hearing from law enforcement…
“It simply gives additional tools for them to battle what’s a growing problem in rural areas in this state and my district specifically,” Bourne said. “With use of bath salts which are synthetic drugs not relate to the bath salts you use from like Bed Bath & Beyond. It specifically targets retailers. This bill is a small fix, there’s certainly a lot more we can do.”
The legislation now moves to Gov. Bruce Rauner’s desk.
