BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington City Council on Monday unanimously approved an initial contract with VenuWorks to take over management of the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
This contract is for 90 days while the city draws up a more detailed 5 year contract. City Attorney Jeff Jurgens noted a 5 year contract could be brought to council before the 90 days is up.
VenuWorks President Steve Peters said cities like Bloomington are the core of their business.
“You look at where we’re running other similar operations; Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Evansville, Ind., Kennewick, Wash.,” said Peters. “That’s kind of been our niche all along.”
Alderman Scott Black said a lot of work went into finding VenuWorks.
“This was kind of a surprise for us and we had to do a little bit more work on the back end that really brought this contract, and this agreement, up to fruition,” Black said.
The council also voted Monday to approve a resolution to maintain Bloomington’s golf courses as city owned and managed properties.
