BLOOMINGTON – Connect Transit will be able to offer service on Sundays thanks in part to funding coming in from the recent one-percent sales tax increase in Bloomington-Normal.
“If we are able to obtain that funding, we’ll be able to leverage three times the funding from the State of Illinois, and we will be able to have Sunday service in Bloomington-Normal by the end of summer,” General Manager Andrew Johnson said.
Sunday service is something Connect Transit has hoping to implement for awhile, but until now has been unable to due to lack of funding.
Johnson added the company will soon be rolling out new electronic fare boxes, which will make it easier for the public to pay bus fare.
