SPRINGFIELD – There’s no budget for the fiscal year that’s halfway over. Even though customarily the leaders and maybe a handful of other lawmakers work on the budget, State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Marengo) said all 177 should be here.
“Right now, we’re not even talking about the problem, and that’s wrong,” Franks said. “If you let the General Assembly meet, and let the rank and file talk about what we can live with, we’d be able to do it in just a few days.”
“Change our antiquated tax code, which is really based on a 19th Century economy, update that, and close two to two and a half billion dollars in corporate loopholes.”
Franks, speaking on his way back from Florida, took a jab at the governor’s vacation to … who knows where.
