WASHINGTON – Congress has passed a federal budget, again just before a deadline for a government shutdown.
The $1.1 trillion omnibus budget keeps the government funded through fiscal year 2016. U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) said the government shutdown deadlines are “terrible.”
“As a matter of fact, these artificial deadlines give power to people like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid,” said Davis. “They get a seat at the table when large spending bills are put together.”
How are these deadlines avoided in the future?
“The biggest thing we can do is get back to our constitutional appropriations process,” said Davis. “That means passing our 12 appropriations bills throughout the year, rather than waiting to combine them all into one single, massive piece of legislation.”
Davis did like aspects of the budget. He explained some tax provisions will allow the economy to grow. He points specifically to a section which allows farmers to understand what tax provisions will be when they buy large pieces of equipment.
