LeRoy and Tri-Valley have advanced to semifinal berths in high school football while the remaining area teams ended their seasons on Saturday.
Tri-Valley advances in the Class 2A IHSA playoffs taking down Dee-Mack 57-20 in Downs.
The Vikings scored on their first possession by capping an 88-yard drive with a 3-yard run by Brock Danko.
Dee-Mack took their only lead of the game at 7-6 on the first play of the next possession on a 64-yard carry by Jared Reese.
The Vikings controlled the rest of the contest with a 22-7 lead after one quarter and 43-7 at the half. Peyton Roop and Hayden Long each scored two rushing touchdowns for the Vikings (12-0).
Dee-Mack ends its season at 8-4.
The Vikings host Annawan-Wethersfield next Saturday at a time to be determined in a Class 2A semifinal.
The Normal Community Ironmen’s football season comes to an end in the Class 7A quarterfinals with a 41-27 loss to Libertyville.
NCHS trailed 21-0 at halftime but twice closed to within seven at 27-20 and 34-27. Each time LHS QB Riley Lees answered with long runs of 41 yards and the final game-clinching 74-yarder to make the final 41-27.
Lees had 28 carries for 319 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Northwestern recruit also threw two touchdown passes.
Grant Price led the second half comeback by throwing touchdown passes to Dakota Cremeens and Christian Wey and a total of 335 yards through the air. Cremeens had 8 catches for 141 yards. Alec Bozarth and Varshaun Dixon each had 1-yard touchdown runs. NCHS finished the season 10-2.
In Class 1A, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley’s season comes to an end in the quarterfinals with a 7-6 loss to Arcola.
LeRoy was victorious easily handling Carrollton 30-6. LeRoy will travel to Arcola next Saturday.
Central Catholic’s football season came to an end Saturday with a 26-21 loss to St. Joseph-Ogden at Bill Hundman Field in Class 3A quarterfinal action.
The loss snapped a 10-game winning steak and left the Saints’ record at 10-2.
St. Joseph-Ogden moved its record to 12-0 and advanced to the semifinal round against ToLono Unity next week.
The Saints scored first on an 18-yard pass from Jake Baughman to Bobby Brady with Max Moews adding the conversion kick in the first quarter.
St. Joseph-Ogden countered with a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter for a 14-6 halftime lead.
Ty Brown ran 17 yards for the first score and Jake Pence caught an 11-yard scoring strike from Eli Oltean.
Central Catholic tied the game in the third quarter on a 2-yard Brett Segobiano run and Moews’ conversion kick.
The Spartans re-took the lead late in the third quarter on a 10-yard run.
They added their final scores midway through the fourth quarter on a 4-yard run.
The Saints’ final score was a 7-yard run by Baughman.
