NORMAL – A property which has had multiple problems in a historical neighborhood could soon be purchased by the Town of Normal.
614 N. School St. was built as a single family home, but has been licensed for up to 10 occupants.
“Most of the tenants have been college students and the activities in that property have not necessarily matched well with its neighbors,” said Deputy City Manager Pamela Reece. “So, there’s been some conflicts there.”
Reece added the property’s condition is deteriorating and there have been code enforcement issues.
“We’re asking council for authorization Monday night to acquire 614 N. School. We would turn around then and try to sell it to a potential property owner that would live in it, that would invest in it, and bring it back to its historic roots.”
The purchase would be for $190,000. Reece said Normal does not anticipate making its money back, but they believe the project is worth the cost.
