Bloomington Thunder top Sioux City

Bloomington, IL – In the latter half of the Bloomington Thunder’s weekend series with the Sioux City Musketeers, the Thunder took the win against the Musketeers. Bloomington put up seven points against Sioux City this round, and topped the second leading team of the league. The game ended after a close fight in favor of the Thunder with a final score of 7-3.

Like the night before, the Musketeers grabbed the first point of the night in the first period. Defensemen Jake McLaughlin (St. Lawrence University) slotted the puck with an assist from Jake Ryczek (University of New Hampshire). With 12:47 up on the clock Bloomington Forward Logan Lambdin and Sioux City Forward Jake Durflinger took 15 PIMs for Fighting and misconduct. Less than a minute post-fight, Assistant Captain Vince Pedrie (Quinnipiac University) stole the Thunder’s first point of the weekend against the Musketeers. Shane Bednard (Bowling Green State University) picked up a point with the assist the Pedrie. Sioux City one upped the Thunder with a power play goal from Ryczek, his second point of the night, with an assist from Sam Kurker (Northeastern University, St. Louis Blues).

Entering into the second period, the Musketeers led with a score of 2-1. Sioux City snagged their second power play goal of the night with 13:44 on the clock. Robert Carpenter (Boston University) scored the goal assisted by Joe Snively (Yale University). Quickly after, Thunder Assistant Captain Matt Mendelson (Penn State University) put up the second goal of the night for Bloomington with an assist from Jack Jenkins. Bloomington continued the momentum tying up the game with a goal from Jake Slaker assisted by Blake Gober. Patrick Curry grabbed the fourth and game winning goal for the Thunder with an assist from Jeremy Davies (Northeastern University) with :33 left in the second.

Up by one with a score of 4-3, the Thunder led into the final period. They extended that lead with Bednard’s second goal of the night with an assist from Gober, also his second assist of the night. Grabbing that momentum, Ryan Siroky (Miami University) broke way with the puck and slotted an unassisted goal, doubling Sioux City’s points and putting the Thunder at a three point advantage. At the 12:49 mark Bobby Dugan took Collin Olson’s (Western Michigan University, Carolina Hurricanes) post in the net. In a final attempt to make up the difference, Sioux City pulled Goalie Dugan, but Curry snuck the puck past the six man strong Musketeers for an empty net goal and Bloomington’s seventh goal assisted by Siroky.

Goalie Hayden Lavign (University of Michigan) took the win for the Thunder playing his first full 60 minutes with Bloomington. He made 24 saves on 27 shots for an overall .923SVPT with the Thunder. Olson took the loss for Sioux City, making 19 saves on 25 shots.
