Jesse Jackson speaks at jail on Christmas

CHICAGO – Chicago's new archbishop and the city's best known civil rights
leader are both slated to speak to inmates at one of the nation's largest jails
on Christmas Day.
 
 Archbishop Blase Cupich (blayz SOO'-pich) and the Rev. Jesse Jackson will speak
Thursday morning at the Cook County Jail.
 
 A statement from the office of Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says Cupich will
lead a Christmas Mass in the Division 11 section of the jail. Jackson will speak
in Division 4.
 
 Cupich replaced Cardinal Francis George last month as the spiritual leader of
more than 2 million Catholics.  He's also scheduled to visit sick children
Thursday.
 
 Jackson traditionally speaks at jail. Last year he called on Cook County to
consider releasing pretrial detainees charged with nonviolent offenses who can't
afford bail.
