NORMAL – The Normal West basketball team is getting together Saturday to make a difference off of the court.
The Wildcats will be out in the community raking leaves for Veterans in Normal Saturday afternoon, from 12:30 to 4:30pm.

West head coach Ed Hafermann spoke with WJBC’s Scott Miller.
“For the last several years we have been raking leaves for people in need as a community service project. We had our preseason meeting last year with our coaches, and it just turned out that last the day that we were going to rake the leaves was Veterans Day. The idea just kind of popped up that we were going to focus on veterans and its kind of our new tradition now,” Hafermann said.
The Wildcats raked leaves for the first time last year, and senior Mike Zaleski says it was a learning experience.
“I think it is an eye-opening experience. Especially from last year hearing their stories and all that they have had to sacrifice going overseas and fighting for us. It is the least we can do for them to try to help them out,” Zaleski said.
