NORMAL – Normal's Town Council has given the thumbs up to the 2015-2020 Community Investment Plan.
The plan lays out a variety of projects the town is looking to complete over the next five years. In all about $60 million worth of projects are involved.
"I will also point out that we've identified a little over $100 million of capital needs that are not funded in this document," City manager Mark Peterson said.
One of those yet-to-be-funded projects is a new community soccer complex, which Councilwoman Sonya Reece was glad to see is at least on the list.
"It's here we're recognizing that it is important," said Reece. "We have to figure out how to make that work. It will be a community resource."
Councilwoman Cheryl Gaines said she's excited to see a lot of "gray."
"Gray on here says that it's either under way or it is done," said Gaines. "There are awfully lot of projects that have gotten done just in the recent time."
Peterson called this the first step in the budget process. The council will likely get its first look at next year's potential budget on Jan. 15.
