BLOOMINGTON – The next generation of investors can now learn the ins and out’s of wall street at Illinois Wesleyan University in a new Bloomberg Finance Lab.
Thanks to a generous gift from IWU alums Greg Yess and his wife Kari, the new lab features 12 licensed terminals and two live stock tickers.
“Bloomberg terminals are the gold standard for all professionals in the finance field, so they certainly provide up to the minute finance data – that’s data on the financial markets so you can be following any kind of stock and see what is happening in real-time,” IWU President Georiga Nugent said on the Afternoon Show. “But, they are much more rich in information than that. They give historical data; you can work with geographical data and so forth.”
According to President Nugent, the labs in the State Farm Hall allow finance students and economic majors to get hands-on training.
“(This allows students) to be able to be trained on the state of the art equipment. That is what they will find when they enter the workforce. So we are just thrilled with this.”
The Bloomberg terminal is a computer software system that allows students and professionals to monitor real-time financial market data, news and research, and electronic trading capabilities.
