BLOOMINGTON – The airport authority has begun the process of renewing a land lease with Bloomington Central Catholic High School.
Principal Sean Foster said the lease would be for a five year extension at the same location and would be used as the football practice field. Foster says he did not think the land owned by the airport would be available in the future at the time of a controversial vote on a land deal.
"In 2013, my predecessor as well as the authorities at the airport and a few of the Bloomington city authorities met," said Foster. "After that meeting it was our understanding we could not be guaranteed that we could renew the lease, so at that point we started looking at other options."
The Bloomington city council voted down a request to use a 750-thousand dollar state grant to buy land near McGraw Park to be leased to Central Catholic for use as a football practice field.
