BLOOMINGTON – Free bulk waste pickup for Bloomington residents is returning to its regularly scheduled time period this year after being delayed in 2020 due to COVID.
Public works crews will begin bulk waste and brush pickup May 3-14, according to Bloomington Public Works Director Kevin Kothe. He says all bulk waste and brush must be placed in separate piles behind the curb by 6 a.m.
“Put it in a place that is easy for our loader to pick it up, meaning try to avoid parked cars and that type of thing so we can get it picked up,” said Kothe. “Bulk waste includes things such as furniture or stuff you may clean out of your garage or home. It does not include things like paint, varnish, other liquids, commercial waste or electronics.”
The service is offered at no additional charge for Solid Waste Program users. Residents may also take bulk waste and brush to the Citizen Convenience Center, which is located at 402 S. East Street.
