BLOOMINGTON – The numbers are in and the Salvation Army of Bloomington has exceeded its fundraising goal for the annual Christmas Campaign.
This year’s campaign brought in $577,538, beating the goal of $500,000.
“We are overwhelmed by the incredible outpouring of support, exceeding our goal. Despite the fact less money was collected in the red kettles this year, our amazing donors in McLean County rose to the occasion to Rescue Christmas for their neighbors,” said Major Dan Leisher during a Facebook Live event.
The red kettles raised $163,354 and faced difficult obstacles this year due to COVID, with some locations unavailable due to restrictions and shutdowns. Online and mail in donations brought in a record-breaking $414,183.
Money raised during the campaign helps the Salvation Army fund local programs including the food pantry, Safe Harbor Homeless Shelter, the Comprehensive Emergency Assistance Program, and youth programs.
