EAST PEORIA – Illinois State Police are investigating a shooting that happened early Tuesday morning and involves an East Peoria police officer.
East Peoria Police Chief Rich Brodrick told our news partner HOI ABC the officer was investigating a domestic disturbance and was pursuing a vehicle.
An East Peoria police officer located the vehicle around 1 a.m. in a CVS parking lot on Farmdale Road, according to a news release. The officer was stabbed multiple times by the suspect and the officer shot the suspect, said ISP. Responding officers provided medical care to the suspect.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities said a woman and girl who were victims in the initial domestic incident were taken to local hospitals and are recovering from injuries.
No other information is being released. The incident remains under investigation by ISP Zone 4 and ISP Crime Scene Services Command.
