NORMAL – An Illinois State University student living in a campus residence hall has tested positive for COVID-19, a university spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.
The student with the coronavirus left campus and is in isolation, said spokesperson Eric Jome.
The McLean County Health Department is contacting people who may have had contact with the student.
According to our news partner HOI ABC, other details about the case are not being released for privacy purposes, according to Jome.
The specific residence hall where the student was living is also not being released.
The COVID-19 case comes as ISU prepares for next Monday’s start of the fall semester. Jome said close to 80% of all classes will be online, but there are labs, and other classes — in art and music for example — that can’t be replicated online.
As part of the university’s planning for COVID-19 cases, there are spaces set aside for quarantine and isolation, said Jome. He said that space is not being occupied right now.
