BLOOMINGTON – After being released on bail in March of last year, Donald Whalen, 53, was arrested Thursday on multiple McLean County felony warrants.
Bloomington Police said Whalen was taken into custody without incident at his residence in the 900 block of N. Oak Street. BPD said the warrant charges were for nine felony counts of escape.
Whalen, who served almost 28 years in prison for his father’s murder in 1991, was granted a new trial and was released after posting bond. A condition of his bond was to wear a GPS device on his ankle so authorities could monitor his whereabouts.
According to our news partner Heart of Illinois ABC, the charges list four separate days in February and April, the latest alleged offense happening this past Saturday, in which authorities said he traveled to several addresses in Bloomington-Normal, Peoria, and Champaign. Those locations correspond to a department store, a truck stop, pawn shop, drug store, a bank, a furniture store, and two homes.
Whalen is being held at the McLean County jail on a $200,000 cash bond, meaning he needs to post $20,000.
