BLOOMINGTON – A fire that knocked down a downtown Bloomington business over a month ago is being ruled accidental.
Diesel Dick’s was a complete loss after the auto shop went up in flames on Halloween.
Bloomington Fire Public Information Officer Eric Davison said investigators were not able to determine what started the blaze and the cause is being ruled undetermined. A dollar estimate of damage is around $500,000, according to Davison.
The framing and metal pieces of the auto repair shop are still sitting at 508 North Madison Street. Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner said there has been some interest in the property.
“People in the private sector have shown some interest in what might be done with the building and it is actually a pretty strategic piece of property,” said Renner.
The mayor said a local restoration company and city staff are working to clean up the area.
