BLOOMINGTON – McLean County prosecutors have rested their case in the Kirk Zimmerman murder trial.
Judge Scott Drazewski Tuesday denied a defense motion for a directed verdict. The judge disagreed the state failed to present sufficient evidence that Zimmerman killed his former wife, Pam, at her Bloomington office in November 2014.
The defense, now presenting its case to the jury, contends Zimmerman would not have killed his ex-wife over a child support payment as low as $3,900.
Defense attorney John Rogers indicated in opening statements that Zimmerman’s children would testify on his behalf, claiming he’s a loving father.
It’s not known whether Zimmerman will testify. During jury selection, Rogers told prospective jurors that they can’t hold it against Zimmerman if he chooses to remain silent.
