NORMAL – Authorities now report two people were hospitalized, and a third person was arrested for drunken driving late Friday night after a car struck pedestrians crossing College Avenue in Normal.
The police report said a witness saw several people crossing College Avenue at Walnut Street, near railroad tracks where the road splits with Mulberry Street.
The witness reportedly said the car was weaving in and out of its lane of travel, and did not have its brake lights on when it swerved and struck the pedestrians about 10:10 p.m. on Friday.
Normal Police said a woman, 22, and a man, 24, were transported to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center. Police said they did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Prosecutors charged Robert Fisher, 62, of Bloomington with DUI and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The police report indicated Fisher failed a field sobriety test, slurred his words, and couldn’t remember his address.
Police said using a portable breath test device, they found Fisher’s blood alcohol level was at 0.177, which is above the legal limit in Illinois of 0.08. Police said Fisher refused to provide investigators with a blood sample.
He was released from the McLean County Jail on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
