NORMAL – The leading vote-getter among the nine Normal Town Council candidates said decisions he makes on the council will be in the best interests of the entire Twin-Cities, and not at Bloomington’s expense.
Stan Nord said he’s committed to strengthening ties between the communities. Although Nord claims to be fiscally conservative, he bonded during the campaign with Bloomington Alderman-elect Jeff Crabill, a progressive who was elected Tuesday in Ward 8.
They met when Crabill was going door-to-door for one of Nord’s opponents.
“He happened to knock on my door the day that I was putting together some information on economic development for my website,” said Nord.
“I had never met him before. We talked, and I showed him my economic development stuff, and we’re on the same page for that,” Nord said.
Nord and Crabill were seen together at one of Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner’s open houses at city hall.
“I don’t respect this Division Street boundary. I never will,” said Nord.
“I will always make my decisions in the best interest of the community, not what is best for Normal at the expense of Bloomington. I truly hope the folks who were elected in Bloomington will share that vision,” Nord also said.
Nord said he’s willing to work with anyone, even people who disagree with him on issues.
Nord was the top vote-getter among the nine candidates running for three Normal Town Council seats. Political ally Karyn Smith also won a council seat as did incumbent Kathleen Lorenz.
