BLOOMINGTON – State Farm Insurance is reducing jobs as it carries out the restructuring of the Bloomington firm’s information technology department announced back in March.
A company statement released late Tuesday did not say how many jobs have been eliminated, but a spokesman said the restructuring also includes workers who’ve retired, accepted or declined job offers.
State Farm announced almost four months ago that 890 IT jobs were being cut in Bloomington, with 350 positions transfered to State Farm offices in Phoenix and Dallas.
The announcement from McLean County’s largest employer sparked fears of a slowing local economy.
A spokesman said the company now expects to reduce fewer than 890 IT jobs locally, and less than 500 nationwide.
This week marks the second phase of the restructuring, which includes changing the IT department’s name to Enterprise Technology.
