BLOOMINGTON – Action is expected Tuesday night by the McLean County Zoning Board of Appeals on a proposed wind farm spread across five townships in the northeastern part of the county.
The board has heard testimony and reviewed evidence during a public hearing that went for eight evenings on Invenergy’s application for a special use permit.
The company plans to build 100 turbines on 13,000 acres near Chenoa, Gridley, and Lexington.
Opposition focused on the noise produced by the turbines, while backers pointed to the economic benefits, including hundreds of construction jobs.
The zoning board meets at 7 p.m. in the fourth floor county board room of the McLean County Government Center in Downtown Bloomington.
The full county board will have the final say on approving the wind farm permit.
