BLOOMINGTON – U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) said people need to be careful when using the phrase “Muslim ban” as they discuss the president’s travel ban by citizens from seven countries.
Davis said Monday in Bloomington calling it a Muslim ban is “dangerous” and “not true.”
“The fact is when the rhetoric like that is used it creates opportunities for jihadists to recruit more terrorists that want to hurt Americans,” he said.
Davis admitted the order was hastily implemented, but he’s glad to have seen the administration clarify it does not affect green card holders.
“We’re talking about less than 200 people that were inconvenienced over the weekend,” said Davis. “And the executive order addresses the seven most dangerous countries that intelligence agencies tell us where most jihadi activity is going to come from.”
Davis said the Trump administration looking to protect the country from terrorists. He explained the pause created by the order will allow them to put in place better security measures.
