BLOOMINGTON – Students and a few professors rallied on the Illinois Wesleyan University campus to stand against Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Amina Williams, a Muslim student from Chicago, said the past several months have been some of the hardest of her life.
“I’ve been Muslim my entire life, but I’ve never been afraid to be a Muslim in my own home,” she said.
Williams said during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan she asked her friends to escort her to and from prayers because she was too scared to go alone. She added she was was “scared out her mind” by Trump saying he wants to put Mosques under surveillance.
“Mosques here, especially where I live, Chicago, all of those Mosques are schools. So he’s talking about surveying children,” Williams said.
Williams said it’s “terrifying” to think Trump would put a “target” on the Muslim children’s backs.
