NORMAL – The new director of parks and recreation in Normal comes from a short distance to the west of the Twin Cities.
Normal City Manager Mark Peterson has announced Douglas Damery will take oversight of the town’s parks on November 1. Damery has been director of the Washington Park District since 2003. He previously served park districts in Itasca, Illinois and Carmel, Indiana.
The hiring follows a 10-week national search after Christopher Cotten left Normal for a similar position in Salina, Kan.
Damery is 47 years old. He and his wife Karen have two teenage children, Austin and Olivia.
