Bloomington Police Chief Brendan Heffner says it’s best to let state police handle an investigation into past operations of the city-owned U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
“We’re more than capable of doing it,” Heffner told WJBC’s Susan Saunders. “But in order to not have questions come up or be second-guessed, sometimes it’s just cleaner to let an outside agency investigate.”
City officials requested the investigation into former Coliseum managers Central Illinois Arena Management after an in-depth audit during the transition to the new management company.
“We’re very thankful that the state police did it because there will always be some people questioning things,” Heffner continued. “If you have someone from the outside doing it, you basically rule out anyone alleging conflict of interest.”
No timeline on the investigation has been provided, but city officials caution against a rush to judgment until all the facts are in.
