NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — One McLean County emergency siren is not operational on a day with severe weather predicted, but other neighboring sirens that overlap it will cover the community.
WMBD learned from a social media notice and a follow-up conversation that the McLean County Emergency Management Agency conducted a test of the Parkside siren this morning.
McLean County EMA officials confirm the siren is not working, but the neighboring sirens that overlap it are fully functioning.
The McLean County siren system will continue to cover the community in the event an emergency notice is necessary.
The office has also submitted a repair request, but says the siren is not expected to be repaired on Wednesday.
In the Facebook message, McLean County EMA offers this reminder. ” Sirens are to warn people who are outdoors to seek shelter and additional information. They are not intended to be heard indoors.”
The message continued with an additional reminder to have multiple ways to stay weather-aware, including alerts, phone apps, weather radios, and news channels.
The CIProud2GO Weather App and the WMBD team of meteorologists are also Your Local Weather Authority.
