BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — The Miller Park Zoo announced that it has hired a new zoo director.
Paul Bouseman will take up the role of zoo director starting on June 15, according to Thom Rakestraw, a spokesperson for the city of Bloomington’s Parks and Recreation Department.
He will be taking over for Jay Pratte, who held the position from September 2022 until last December. Norah Fletchall is currently serving as interim director during the transition period.
“I am honored to take the helm of an institution with 135 years of commitment to wildlife conservation and education,” said Bouseman.

Bouseman previously served as the deputy director of the Evansville, Indiana, Parks and Recreation Department. He has also worked as the Deputy Director of Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden.
“Our staff is energized by this appointment,” said Eric Veal, Director of the City of Bloomington Parks & Recreation Department. “Paul brings with him the understanding of the science, the animals and the people who dedicate their lives to this work.”
More information on the zoo is available on its website.
