BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — The Bloomington Police Department announced an arrest in connection with a Saturday morning shooting.
Jeremiah McCottrell, 24, of Normal, was arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm, being a felon in possession of a weapon and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, according to a Bloomington police news release.
Officers initially responded to the area near East Jefferson and North Gridley Streets around 9:35 a.m. May 23, after a report of gunfire in the area. When police arrived on the scene, they located shell casings.
According to police, it was determined a fight had occurred before gunshots were fired at a vehicle leaving the area. No injuries were reported.
Detectives identified McCottrell as a suspect. He was found near Springfield Road and Tanner Street around 9 p.m. and was arrested without incident.
“You have our commitment that the Bloomington Police Department will continue to work steadfastly to investigate violent crimes,” said Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington.
“Our community deserves a worry-free environment from violence year-round. Through diligent and cooperative efforts with our residents, crimes will continue to be solved and those who prey on others will be held accountable.”
McCottrell was denied pretrial release and remains in custody at the McLean County Jail at this time.
