LEROY, Ill. (WMBD) – Monday marks the beginning of the Illinois high school softball playoffs. LeRoy is once again poised to make yet another deep run as they eye a return to Louisville Slugger in Peoria.
The Panthers wrap up a near-perfect regular season, going 34-1 win after a win over Eureka on Saturday. Just a few years ago, this was a state the Panthers were new to.
The current seniors were freshmen back in 2023 when LeRoy went to state for the first time in program history.
They finished 3rd back then and were runner runner-ups last year; now they want to finish the job.
I mean, every team we’ve had for the past four years I’ve been playing softball has been truly unique in each and every way. And all of these girls that are in the dugout with us are just going to continue to carry on What we started back my freshman year, our first year, going to state. Just short of a perfect season. Not many teams can say that. You know, at the end of the day, do you want to lose in the regular season or do you wanna lose in postseason?

You know they’ve won games by outscoring people. We’ve won games out-pitching people. We’ve won games with defense and we’ve won games with a little bit of everything. And it’s been it’s been a lot of fun.
Doug Hageman
They hope to start their 3rd trip in four years to the Final Four with a win over either Armstrong or Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley on Tuesday.
