PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — While shootings are slightly down in Peoria, the police department says there have been more homicides so far this year than in 2025.
According to the Peoria Police Department’s Year-To-Date Shooting Report, there have been three homicides this year as of April 30, an increase of one from 2025.
This year’s homicides had two as a result of guns and one stabbing, police said. The victims included a 35-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, and a 17-year-old boy.
That’s up from two shooting deaths that occurred during the same time frame in 2025.
There were also 13 shooting incidents, one less than last year’s 14 shooting incidents. However, there were 15 victims in both time spans.
In 2025, there were a total of 12 homicides, seven of which were by firearms, and 64 shootings were reported.
