Miller Park Zoo to host event to raise awareness on endangered species

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — The Miller Park Zoo will host a day of activities to help raise awareness about Endangered Species on May 17.

The zoo will be hosting several activities in honor of Endangered Species Day, according to Miller Park Zoo Event Coordinator Silvia Schuh.

One of the activities will be an Endangered Species Chalk Art Contest, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This contest will be held in partnership with the Endangered Species Coalition.

People of all ages will be able to contact Schuh at [email protected] to enter the contest. The Zoo will provide participants with materials and entry is free.

The zoo will also be hosting an Endangered Species Day Scavenger Hunt that will help guests learn about the zoo’s efforts to help save endangered and vulnerable species. Schuh said everyone who completes the hunt will be able to win a small prize.

“Endangered Species Day is an opportunity for us to learn more about wildlife and the species at risk of extinction, and to take meaningful action to protect them,” said Miller Park Zoo Events Coordinator Silvia Schuh. “One important way to make a difference is by educating ourselves about the daily challenges these animals face.”

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
