BLOOMINGTON – With less than a month until the April 1 consolidated election, candidates for Bloomington mayor explained their positions in front of a student panel.

The candidates took questions at Illinois Wesleyan University for an hour on Sunday, giving their stances on controversial topics.

Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe, Cody Hendricks, and Dan Brady all said their top three goals are to focus on public safety, the affordable housing crisis and infrastructure needs like water and sewage.

They all said they have a plan for tackling these important issues for Bloomington residents.

“I think it’s extremely important. We talk about our infrastructure needs when we talk about public safety and when we talk about economic development. For the city of Bloomington,” said Brady.

But Bloomington’s current Mayor thinks he’s still be the best fit to remain in office.

“While we have accomplished a lot. There is still a little bit more to accomplish, particularly when I think about housing. Housing is very important,” said Mayor Mwilambwe.

However, Hendricks said Bloomington needs a fresh change of pace in the form of new leadership.

“I think we do need some new, fresh leadership in the mayor’s office to tackle some of these issues that have been lingering on with housing, with economic development, with infrastructure,” said Hendricks.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
