Bloomington mayor discusses state of the city

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe delivered his State of the City Address at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts.

It was held on Wednesday, May 1 to kickoff the city’s fiscal year.

Bloomington saw improvements with the newly established Arts and Entertainment Department, the BCPA saw more than 15,000 people in the first quarter alone.

The mayor also gave praises to the first responders. The fire department responded to more than a record breaking 13,000 calls, and the police department saw a 6% drop in crime.

Mwilambwe said, “Over the past year the city has seen remarkable progress, but that hasn’t come without challenges. Yet, through unity, determination and resilience, we have emerged stronger than ever.”

He mentioned some of the library renovations including a podcast room, nursing nook and drive-thru window while also lauding the Parks and Recreation Department for their bulk pick ups.
