BLOOMINGTON – Illinois State Police announced the result of its joint enforcement detail near Veterans Parkway and Towanda Barnes Road in Bloomington on Wednesday.

According to Illinois State Police, ISP deputies were joined by Bloomington police officers and McLean County Sheriff’s deputies and conducted 115 traffic stops.

During the detail, officers and deputies issued 47 citations and 45 written warnings. According to ISP, most of the stops were made due to excessive speed, with the highest recorded speed being one driver going 74 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Illinois State Police Captain Tim Sweeney said they were proud to partner with the local agencies to promote safety in the Bloomington-Normal area.

“Our partnership with the Bloomington Police Department, the Normal Police Department, and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office ensures a combined front in traffic safety in the Bloomington-Normal area,” Sweeney said. “The Illinois State Police will continue to work with our local partners to ensure daily commuters in the Bloomington-Normal area are arriving to work and returning home safely.”

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
