NORMAL – Illinois State University went outside its campus looking for a person to lead the school but in the end, came back to the person who temporarily held the job.

On Friday, the Board of Trustees announced Aondover Tarhule, who was currently serving as the school’s interim president, could drop the first part of the title as they made his appointment permanent.

The announcement comes after a search committee interviewed four people for the position and brought each to campus.

“After consideration of the work performed by the Presidential Search Committee, evaluation of the finalist candidates, and the feedback received from faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, and many interested constituents, the Board of Trustees reached a consensus to pursue Dr. Tarhule as Illinois State University’s next permanent president,” the school said in a statement.

There will be a special meeting on Monday, March 18 where the board is expected to approve the appointment of Tarhule as the school’s 21st president.

The agenda and resolutions will be made available for the upcoming special meeting on the Board of Trustees at Illinois State University website, at least 48 hours in advance, in compliance with the Illinois Open Meetings Act.

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
