SPRINGFIELD – Five days remain in the 2022 spring legislative session in Springfield.
Lawmakers want time to campaign for the June 28 primary, later this year because of the delayed Census numbers.
The main piece of business is to craft a budget, which State Rep. Tim Butler (R-Springfield) says seems to have excluded Republicans – “standard operating procedure,” he says. But when you are talking about General Assembly time, a week can be a “lifetime,” said State Rep. Mike Zalewski (D-Riverside), who chairs the House Revenue and Finance Committee.
Lawmakers are also looking to pass crime legislation. Republicans say it should start with repealing last year’s Safe-T Act, most of which, points out State Sen. Robert Peters (D-Chicago), has not gone into effect yet.
